Za’Darius Smith Discusses Potential Move to the Detroit Lions

Za’Darius Smith, currently with the Cleveland Browns, has become a topic of trade speculation, particularly regarding a potential move to the Detroit Lions.

Following the season-ending leg injury to star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, the Lions are seeking a boost in their pass rush, making Smith a candidate for replacement.

When questioned about the rumors linking him to the Lions, Smith expressed surprise.

“I didn’t even know about it,” the three-time Pro Bowler shared with The Chronicle-Telegram, emphasizing his commitment to helping the Browns end their four-game losing streak as they gear up to face the Cincinnati Bengals.

While focusing on his current team, Smith acknowledged the unfortunate situation surrounding Hutchinson’s injury and its implications for the Lions.

“Hate that injury happened to him, a guy that was on his way to get Defensive Player of the Year possibly,” he stated.

“That’s a big loss for them.”

Asked if he would entertain a move to Detroit, Smith reiterated that such decisions are beyond his control. “You know what, that’s not my decision.

That’s all upstairs,” he remarked, suggesting that inquiries should be directed at the team’s management.

Despite his primary focus on the Browns, Smith hinted that the idea of joining the Lions could be intriguing.

“I’m staying positive, but now that you say that, it might be a good look, a good feel for me,” he noted.

He mentioned that playing against the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings twice a year would be a significant opportunity.

“If I was to go to Detroit, I would like it,” he added.

Currently, Smith is concentrating on helping the Browns improve their performance, but the ongoing trade discussions across the league suggest that the possibility of joining the Lions remains a consideration for him.

His future may hinge on how the situation unfolds, but he seems open to the idea ifit arises.
