FRISCO – Entering 2024, the Dallas Cowboys had hopes of remaining contenders in the NFC. However, after six games, they seem far from the team that found form late last season. Sitting at 3-3, their season isn’t over, but the chances of becoming a postseason threat look slim. Their upcoming schedule, beginning with an away game against the San Francisco 49ers, casts further doubt on their ability to turn things around. Whether they improve or continue to struggle, a few players stand to benefit in the final 11 games. Here are three Cowboys who can still progress despite the team’s “lame-duck” season.
Hunter Luepke – The Cowboys’ fullback has solidified his role this year, becoming a key asset in their offense. Luepke has shown his receiving ability and played important roles, especially in the Week 5 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dallas can utilize Luepke as a receiver, runner, or blocker for Dak Prescott. Reigniting their offense might depend on maximizing his versatile skillset.
Jalen Tolbert – The young receiver has already distinguished himself by securing the third starting receiver spot. With Brandin Cooks sidelined due to a knee injury, Tolbert has become Dak Prescott’s second option. He has 24 catches for 290 yards and two touchdowns this season. Like Luepke, Tolbert had a defining moment against Pittsburgh, catching the game-winning touchdown. He has room to grow and become an even more reliable target for Prescott.
DeMarvion Overshown – After an injury-plagued rookie season, Overshown is now a bright spot on a defense needing positive stories. He ranks second on the team with 41 tackles and leads in solo tackles (28). With Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence out due to injuries, Overshown has stepped up and brought a presence to the Cowboys’ defense. The team will hope he continues his strong play for the rest of the year.
