The Dallas Cowboys recently faced a setback with Brandin Cooks sidelined for at least four weeks, highlighting their need for a second wide receiver to support CeeDee Lamb. With a challenging 3-2 record, it’s evident that quarterback Dak Prescott and the passing attack will need to shoulder the offense’s responsibilities for the remainder of the season. The team has struggled significantly with both running the ball and defending against it in the first five weeks, and Prescott and Lamb each secured lucrative contract extensions worth a combined $376 million in the offseason.
On October 9, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report proposed that the Cowboys pursue a trade for Tee Higgins, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver, ahead of the NFL’s trade deadline on November 5. Knox noted that Higgins could provide the Cowboys with a valuable second receiver, especially given the potential influx of talent in the receiver market. Following a crucial win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cowboys could benefit from adding a strong complementary player to Lamb’s skill set, particularly with Cooks now on injured reserve due to a knee procedure.
Higgins had previously requested a trade from Cincinnati after contract extension talks did not materialize during the offseason. In response, the Bengals placed the franchise tag on him, ensuring he remains with the team through 2024 at a salary of $22 million.
This situation could provide an opportunity for the Cowboys to enhance their receiving corps as they navigate the challenges of the season ahead.
