Jameson Williams Receives Two-Game Suspension for Substance Violation, According to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard.
According to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, Williams has been suspended for two games due to a violation of the NFL’s Performance-Enhancing Substances policy, though the specific substance remains undisclosed.
Earlier this season, he faced a six-game suspension for betting on sports at the Lions’ facility, excluding NFL games, which was later reduced following changes in the league’s gambling policy. He missed the first four games of the season.
A first-round draft pick by the Lions in 2022 from Alabama, Williams has struggled to stay on the field. His rookie season was limited to six games due to an ACL injury sustained in college, and his second season started off slow because of the gambling suspension.
Despite these challenges, Williams is enjoying his best season so far, with 361 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately, his progress is now halted by this suspension.
He will miss the upcoming games against the Tennessee Titans and a crucial divisional clash with the Green Bay Packers the following week.
The Lions have increasingly relied on Williams this season after allowing wide receiver Josh Reynolds to depart, elevating him to the No. 2 receiver role.
During his suspension, the team will depend on Kalif Raymond, newcomer Tim Patrick, and Amon-Ra St. Brown, although none can replicate Williams’ ability as a deep threat.
