Troy Aikman and Joe Buck expressed disappointment over the Cowboys not adding Derrick Henry during MNF.
The Dallas Cowboys didn’t have a game in Week 7, but they still found themselves on the receiving end of some criticism from a familiar voice.
Troy Aikman, a former Cowboys quarterback known for his touchdown throws, took a jab at the team during Monday Night Football.
Following comments about the poor route running of current Cowboys wide receivers, Aikman, along with ESPN partner Joe Buck, had a bit of fun at the expense of the franchise.
As the Ravens’ running back Derrick Henry made a significant run late in the third quarter, Aikman highlighted his value to the Ravens this season.
He indirectly criticized the Cowboys for not pursuing Henry in free agency, saying,
“There’s gotta be a lot of teams out there that had opportunities to bring in Derrick Henry that are kind of kicking themselves for not doing it. But he has been an absolute perfect fit for this Ravens attack.”
Joe Buck then reinforced Aikman’s point, asking, “Can you think of any teams off hand?
I’ll just throw this out there, the offseason home for Derrick Henry is in Dallas, Texas.”
Henry was a free agent who could have been signed by any team or might have never reached free agency if the Tennessee Titans had chosen to keep him.
Nevertheless, every time Henry makes a notable play, the Cowboys are often criticized for not signing him, and this season, he has been making headlines frequently.
The narrative continues as Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has claimed that the team couldn’t afford Henry, a statement that contradicts general public perception and available information.
Buck’s mention of Henry’s home in Dallas and his apparent interest in playing for the Cowboys only fuels this ongoing discussion.
As long as Derrick Henry remains a standout player, this storyline will persist and keep drawing attention.
It seems that the Cowboys will continue to be a focal point of this debate for the foreseeable future.
