Following their third consecutive 12-5 season, which ended with an early playoff elimination, the Dallas Cowboys have surprisingly chosen tol maintain much of the same roster as last year.
However, this quiet offseason hasn’t been beneficial, as the team currently stands at 3-3 and sits in third place in the relatively weak NFC East.
While offensive struggles are certainly contributing to this lackluster start—the Cowboys rank No. 12 in yardage and No. 20 in scoring after finishing in the top five for both categories last season—the defense has experienced an even steeper decline in 2024.
Several key pass rushers, including Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence, are dealing with significant injuries.
In contrast, Myles Garrett, one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers, has consistently posted double-digit sacks for six straight seasons.
In 2023, he had 42 tackles, 30 quarterback hits, 17 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles over 16 games.
Through seven games in 2024, Garrett has accumulated 17 tackles, 9 quarterback hits, 7 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
Although executing a trade for Garrett would be challenging, it could greatly influence the trajectory of the Cowboys’ defense moving forward.
