After securing the NFC North lead with a victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7, the Detroit Lions are preparing for a favorable matchup at home against the struggling 1-5 Tennessee Titans in Week 8.
While anything can happen in the NFL, the Lions are not expected to underestimate a clearly weaker opponent.
The Lions began their preparation on Wednesday, and here’s a look at their initial practice report for the week.
Injury Report:
OT Taylor Decker (rest): Did not participate
OG Graham Glasgow (rest): Did not participate
C Frank Ragnow (rest): Did not participate
DL Levi Onwuzurike (rest): Did not participate
DL Josh Paschal (illness): Did not participate
OG Christian Mahogany (illness): Full participant
OG Kevin Zeitler (groin): Full participant
The first practice report of the week typically isn’t highly informative.
In this case, the Lions opted to give Decker, Glasgow, Ragnow, and Onwuzurike a rest day. Notably, guard Kevin Zeitler also received a rest day last Wednesday before he was subsequently listed with injuries on Thursday and Friday, which ultimately caused him to miss the game against the Vikings.
Regarding Zeitler, he was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice despite being listed with a groin injury. On the other hand,
Paschal briefly exited last week’s game due to an undisclosed issue, but his absence from practice was due to illness.
Christian Mahogany participated fully on Wednesday as he continues to recover from an illness that sidelined him during the preseason and placed him on the NFI list at the start of the season.
The Lions now have six days remaining in the 21-day window to add him to the 53-man roster, or he will need to be shut down for the remainder of the season.
Running back David Montgomery left last week’s game briefly, with head coach Dan Campbell indicating it was primarily a bruise behind his left knee. Despite concerns about limitations during practice, Montgomery was not listed on Wednesday’s report.
Additionally, cornerback Carlton Davis, defensive back Brian Branch, and offensive tackle Dan Skipper also did not appear on the injury report after managing injuries to varying degrees in the previous week.
As the Lions gear up for their matchup, the status of these players will be monitored closely, but the early signs from the injury report suggest a relatively healthy team heading into the game against Tennessee.
