“After a trip to a strip club, former Detroit Lions player Josh Reynolds was injured in a violent shooting.”
A report by Janet Oravetz from 9News indicates that Josh Reynolds, a former Detroit Lions and current Denver Broncos wide receiver, was shot early Friday morning in Denver. The incident occurred after Reynolds and another man were reportedly followed from a strip club.
The shooting happened just after 3 a.m. on October 18, near East Hampden Avenue and South Dahlia Street.
A 911 caller in a blue Ford Bronco reported being shot but stopped responding, suggesting they were trying to escape. Two additional 911 calls followed, one confirming Reynolds as a victim.
Court documents reveal Reynolds sustained two gunshot wounds—one to his left arm and another to the back of his head—while another man was shot in the back. A third person was hurt by shattered glass. All victims suffered scrapes from climbing a fence to escape.
The group had been at Shotgun Willies, a Glendale strip club, and left around 2:45 a.m. They noticed two cars were following them when shots were fired. The suspects chased them onto the highway, where their vehicle was disabled, forcing them to flee on foot.
Denver police arrested two men, Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza, in connection with the shooting. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Mendoza trailing Reynolds and his group from the club.
Reynolds, currently on injured reserve due to a broken finger, did not travel with the Broncos to New Orleans. There have been no updates on his recovery from the shooting.
Despite the alarming nature of the incident given Reynolds’ NFL status, there were no fatalities, and the suspects have been apprehended.
