Former Detroit Lions and current Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds was injured in a shooting incident early Friday morning in Denver, as reported by 9News’ Janet Oravetz.
The shooting happened after Reynolds and another man were followed from a strip club.
The incident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. on October 18, near East Hampden Avenue and South Dahlia Street.
A 911 caller reported being shot while driving a blue Ford Bronco but stopped responding during the call, indicating they were trying to escape.
Following this, two additional 911 calls were made, one of which identified Reynolds as a victim.
Court documents reveal that Reynolds sustained two gunshot wounds—one to his left arm and another to the back of his head—while another individual was shot in the back.
A third victim suffered injuries from shattered glass.
All three had scrapes from climbing over a fence to escape their attackers.
The group had been at Shotgun Willies, a strip club in Glendale, but left without any issues around 2:45 a.m.
They soon noticed they were being followed by two vehicles, leading to gunfire directed at them.
The suspects continued to pursue the victims onto the highway, where the victims’ vehicle became disabled, forcing them to flee on foot.
Denver police have arrested two suspects, Burr Charlesworth and Luis Mendoza, in connection with the shooting.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Mendoza trailing Reynolds and his companions from the strip club.
Currently, Reynolds is on injured reserve due to a broken finger and did not travel with the Broncos for their recent game in New Orleans.
Updates on his recovery from the shooting injuries have not yet been provided.
This shocking incident highlights the dangers faced even by NFL players, but fortunately, no fatalities have occurred, and the suspects have been taken into custody.
