Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams released a statement on Thursday regarding his two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s Performance Enhancing Substances policy.
In a message shared through his agent,
Williams expressed that the suspension came as a “complete surprise” to him, emphasizing he was unaware of how any banned substance entered his system.
Despite this, he stated he would accept the suspension and not pursue an appeal.
“I don’t take supplements or vitamins and am very cautious about over-the-counter medications,” Williams remarked.
“At no point have I ever used something to cheat or gain an unfair advantage.
I recognize my responsibility for everything I put into my body, and I must take accountability in this situation.”
He expressed appreciation for the game, his teammates, coaches, the Lions organization, and the city of Detroit, stating that it was disappointing to face this suspension.
He also noted that being away from the team during their preparations would be difficult for him.
To respect his teammates, he indicated this would be the final time he would address the issue.
While Williams had the option to appeal the suspension, he had already indicated he did not intend to do so.
The No. 12 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Williams has recorded 17 receptions for 361 yards and 3 touchdowns this season.
He will miss upcoming games against the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers as he serves his suspension.
