Proposed Trade Brings Award-Winning Star to Replace Aidan Hutchinson for the Lions

The Detroit Lions are actively seeking ways to fill the void left by star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, who is sidelined for the season due to a broken leg.

With the NFL trade deadline approaching on November 5, the Lions have the opportunity to make a significant move.

Chris Licata of Athlon Sports has suggested that the Lions could acquire another star defender to bolster their defense.

Replacing Hutchinson’s impact will be challenging, but the Lions might consider external options.

One intriguing candidate is Khalil Mack, the standout pass rusher from the Los Angeles Chargers.

Licata proposes that the Lions could trade a fourth-round and a seventh-round pick in 2025 to bring Mack to Detroit.

Mack, an eight-time Pro Bowler and the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year, boasts an impressive track record.

Currently, Mack is in the final year of a $19 million contract and will become a free agent in 2025. So far in the 2024 season, he has recorded only 2.5 sacks, a sharp decline from his career-high of 17 the previous year.

While this trade may seem unlikely, especially with other cost-effective options available, the Lions are in need of a substantial replacement for Hutchinson.

Licata points out that no Lions defender has surpassed 19 quarterback pressures this season, while Hutchinson had an impressive 45 pressures in just five games.

At 33 years old, Mack is still making a significant impact, leading the Chargers with 22 pressures and coming off two consecutive Pro Bowl seasons.

The Lions need to make a bold move to maintain their defensive strength, and acquiring Mack could provide the necessary boost to fill Hutchinson’s substantial shoes.
