Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs displayed his speed, sprinting up the left sideline past the Tennessee Titans’ defense for a 70-yard touchdown on Sunday.
The run marked a career-long for Gibbs, nicknamed “Sonic,” and gave Detroit a 14-7 lead at 3:47 in the first quarter. His previous longest was a 45-yard touchdown during last week’s win over the Minnesota Vikings.
This play is now the season’s second-longest rushing touchdown, trailing only Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry’s 87-yard run from Week 4.
Gibbs hit a top speed of 22.03 mph, the fastest reached by any Lions ball carrier since 2016, as recorded by NFL Next Gen Stats.
The Lions continued to innovate as David Montgomery, Gibbs’ backfield partner, tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to tight end Sam LaPorta at 2:18 in the second quarter.
Montgomery became the first Lions non-quarterback with both a passing and rushing touchdown in the same game since Gene Gedman did so in 1958 against the 49ers.
He also ran in a 7-yard touchdown with 10:31 left in the first quarter.
