McCarthy’s Frustration with Prescott Grows as Cowboys’ Season Continues Declining
After his career-best season last year and finishing as runner-up for MVP, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has had a disappointing start this season.
Much attention has been on the team’s struggling defense under new coordinator Mike Zimmer, but the offense has also fallen short throughout the season.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy recently expressed frustration over the team’s performance.
Cowboys insider Calvin Watkins reported that McCarthy is particularly frustrated with their -8 turnover ratio.
Mike McCarthy said he’s very frustrated with the Cowboys being
Through seven games, the Cowboys have given up the ball 13 times (nine interceptions and four lost fumbles) while only forcing five turnovers (four interceptions and one fumble recovery).
This is a stark difference from last season’s Cowboys. In 2023, Dallas recorded 26 takeaways while turning the ball over only 16 times.
The team is currently on track to more than double last year’s turnover count.
Prescott threw just nine interceptions all of last season and has already reached eight. His TD: Int ratio has dropped from 36:9 to 10:8 this season.
Pinning this solely on players overlooks the broader issues. This same roster has posted 12-win seasons for the past three years and has the talent to perform far better.
It’s the responsibility of the coaching staff to set players up for success and the front office’s job to build a competitive roster.
It’s fair to say the Cowboys have missed the mark on both fronts, leading to the players’ struggles, including Prescott’s.
