After their viral exchange during the 49ers game, Cowboys’ Trevon Diggs gifts a reporter as a gesture of goodwill.
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has found peace and forgiveness following the 30-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
The All-Pro player went viral for his intense reaction after the game when he confronted Cowboys reporter Mike Leslie of WFAA Dallas, who criticized Diggs’ performance on a long reception.
An upset Diggs lashed out at Leslie in front of cameras, even telling him, “Talk about deez nuts,” before heading to the locker room.
On Wednesday, both Diggs and Leslie were in the same venue for the first time since the incident. Their interaction was notably lighter, as captured by Nick Harris, a Cowboys reporter for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Diggs and Leslie were seen smiling and holding cans of peanuts.
Jeff Kolb from Fox 4 Dallas noted how Diggs addressed questions about the postgame encounter with an apologetic tone. “Handled it like a man. Discussed the human element with emotions & social media. He did it right,” Kolb tweeted.
Diggs did not practice on Wednesday as the Cowboys prepared to face the NFC South-leading Atlanta Falcons.
Leslie later shared his perspective on the heated exchange, tweeting, “What is Trevon Diggs doing on this play?” while watching George Kittle’s 43-yard reception against the Cowboys, a key moment in the game.
Following the game, Diggs confronted Leslie and challenged his football knowledge, telling him, “Stay in your lane, buddy. Stop trying me, dog,” before the “deez nuts” remark.
Leslie quickly responded on his X account, initially refraining from discussing the altercation but later adding context. “I’ve been asked by my bosses at WFAA to clarify this tweet to avoid the impression I’m just randomly tweeting. That’s fair, as it’s not typical for me,” Leslie explained.
The next day, Leslie noted that Diggs had addressed the altercation with Micah Parsons on his “The Edge” podcast, where Parsons indicated that Dallas was in man coverage when Kittle broke free. Diggs felt Leslie’s comments were “unnecessary” and suggested the reporter was using his name for attention.
“I’m aware he was in man coverage. I wasn’t referring to that part of the play,” Leslie clarified. “The initial responsibility for that play lay with safety Donovan Wilson, and I mentioned that in real time. My tweet about Trevon only concerned the latter part of the play, where it seemed he wasn’t fully engaged.”
Leslie accepted Diggs’ apology, acknowledging their mutual understanding. “Trevon Diggs and I have cleared the air. He apologized for the hallway incident, and I apologized for misreading the play—he explained that what I saw as him jogging was him slow-playing a potential cutback from George Kittle,” Leslie stated.
He concluded, “We buried the hatchet with a couple of canisters of Dee’s Nuts that he gave me after his press interview.”
