The Cardinals have shown interest in Giants’ edge rusher Azeez Ojulari, but their search for a pass rusher goes beyond him.
According to Dianna Russini from The Athletic, the Cardinals have also reached out to the Titans regarding a trade for defensive end Arden Key.
Key, 28, is signed with Tennessee through 2025 at a reasonable salary of $6.5 million for next season. As the 1-6 Titans are looking to sell at this trade deadline, they aren’t required to move Key unless they receive a strong offer.
While the Giants are demanding a high price for Ojulari, it’s unlikely they’ll secure more than a Day 3 draft pick, potentially giving Tennessee greater leverage in negotiations for Key.
Originally drafted in the third round by the Raiders, Key established himself with 11 sacks and 32 QB hits over the 2021-22 seasons with the 49ers and Jaguars, which led to a three-year, $21 million contract with the Titans in 2023.
In his inaugural season with Tennessee, Key notched six sacks and 12 QB hits. This season, he has three sacks and six QB hits through seven games, receiving a solid 70.3 pass rush grade from Pro Football Focus.
The 4-4 Cardinals, surprisingly atop the NFC West, have faced significant injuries along the defensive line. GM Monti Ossenfort has confirmed that he is exploring trade options to boost their pass rush.
At the end of October, Lions head coach Dan Campbell suggested that Detroit might seek to address its EDGE needs after losing Aidan Hutchinson and Marcus Davenport for the season. Armando Salguero of Outkick.com noted Key as a potential target for Detroit, particularly after his two-sack performance against them.
The Lions have also expressed interest in the Browns’ Za’Darius Smith. Both Russini and ESPN’s Adam Schefter have confirmed Detroit’s inquiries about Smith, while Salguero lists the Panthers’ Jadeveon Clowney and the Saints’ Chase Young as other possible targets.
