NFL Official Comments on Brian Branch’s Inappropriate Behavior Directed at Packers Fans
The NFL has responded to Lions safety Brian Branch’s actions following his ejection during the game against the Packers. Despite the adverse weather and Branch’s dismissal, the Lions secured a victory at Lambeau Field in Week 9, improving to a 7-1 record and reinforcing their status as strong contenders in the NFC North. However, Branch may face potential disciplinary measures from the NFL after making inappropriate gestures to the crowd while exiting the field.
After the game, NFL Senior VP of Officiating Perry Fewell addressed the incident that led to Branch’s ejection: a helmet-to-helmet hit on Packers receiver Bo Melton. “We reviewed all angles and determined he had time and space to make a different decision, as this was a flagrant foul,” Fewell stated, as shared by Ian Rapoport on X, formerly Twitter. “He clearly had the opportunity to avoid contact to the head and neck area.”
Fewell also commented on whether Branch’s double middle-finger gesture to the fans during his ejection might result in further punishment. “That could lead to compliance action, yes,” he noted.
Jared Goff expressed appreciation for the fans’ support, saying, “It’s pretty cool. I heard it all. Our fans are awesome. They came out and showed up again. It’s a lot of fun to play for a team with such a dedicated fan base.” Coach Dan Campbell added, “We’re built for this. It doesn’t matter that we play indoors. We can handle the snow, rain, or mud. That’s just who we are. We’re built to win.”
The Lions are set to face C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans in Week 10, looking to maintain their dominance.
