Detroit Lions activate acclimation windows for cornerback Moseley and safety Melifonwu.

On Wednesday, Lions head coach Dan Campbell announced that the team has opened the 21-day practice windows for cornerback Emmanuel Moseley (pectoral) and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle/Achilles).

Moseley’s return is somewhat unexpected, as the 28-year-old veteran tore his pec during joint practices with the New York Giants in early August and was subsequently placed on injured reserve.

Campbell had initially indicated Moseley would return this season, but his recovery seems slightly ahead of schedule. If all goes well, he might be back by Week 13.

Campbell also shared several other injury updates, noting that defensive end Josh Paschal (illness), who missed the last two games, is expected to play Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin, who briefly exited during Sunday’s win over the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury but soon returned, “didn’t do much today,” Campbell stated.

Linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez, injured in Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans, is “better,” according to Campbell.

“We’ll need to see how he looks tomorrow and if he’s ready to practice,” Campbell added.

The Lions have until Nov. 27—one day before their Thanksgiving game against the Chicago Bears—to either activate Moseley and Melifonwu or place them on season-ending injured reserve.

Melifonwu, a standout playmaker for Detroit late last season, has yet to play in 2024.

He aggravated an injury during the team’s Week 2 preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs and hasn’t returned since.

Moseley, meanwhile, has only played two snaps for the Lions. After an ACL tear ended his 2022 season with the 49ers, he joined the Lions in 2023 free agency and rehabbed to make his debut in Week 5.

Unfortunately, he tore his other ACL on his second play. After another rehab, he competed with veteran Amik Robertson for the nickel corner spot in training camp before suffering his latest injury.

Moseley and Melifonwu are joined by second-year defensive tackle Brodric Martin, whose 21-day practice clock began last Wednesday.

Martin was sidelined with a knee injury from the preseason finale against the Pitts burgh Steelers.
