The Dallas Cowboys have faced plenty of justifiable criticism from the media this NFL season. However, on Tuesday, FS1 NFL analyst James Jones’ remarks about quarterback Dak Prescott were called out for being hasty and ultimately inaccurate.
During his weekly segment on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced that Prescott might be placed on injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
In response, FS1’s James Jones commented that Prescott should only miss a week or two and was “quitting” on his team by potentially going on IR.
“Dak is quitting,” said Jones. “And it’s not even funny, though. He’s quitting on these guys. I’ve had a hamstring injury plenty of times.
I was back the next week. It doesn’t take four weeks to recover from a hamstring. You’re not Lamar Jackson or Jalen Hurts. You’re not running; where are you running to? Four weeks? Basically, put me on ice for four weeks. No fight, nothing.
“Is it off the bone or something? Because there’s no way you’re telling me you’re out four weeks with no answers, no fight, nothing, and you’re a quarterback. There’s no way.”
On Wednesday, more information surfaced about the injury’s seriousness. NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported that Prescott’s initial diagnosis showed a partial avulsion of his hamstring tendon, partially torn off the bone.
Prescott is reportedly still weighing other opinions to see if he can avoid the minimum four-week IR stint.
Clearly, this diagnosis shifted perspectives; any player who had “quit” on his team, as Jones suggested, would already be on injured reserve, especially with a partially torn hamstring injury that typically takes over four weeks to heal.
This update led many of Jones’ colleagues in NFL media to mock his premature statement on social media.
