Jared Goff Encourages Detroit Lions Teammates Following His 5-Interception Game Against Texans
Jared Goff, the former No. 1 overall pick of the Los Angeles Rams, has experienced both the highs of playing in a Super Bowl and the lows of being traded to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford.
Since joining Detroit, Goff has won over fans and teammates with his steady play, highlighted by two playoff victories last season and a near win in the NFC Championship against San Francisco.
However, on Sunday, Goff faced an unexpected challenge. Playing on the road in Houston, he struggled with five interceptions against a determined Texans defense, which dominated the Lions’ offense, especially in the first half.
Despite the tough outing, Detroit managed to secure a thrilling 26-23 comeback victory.
After the game, Goff spoke to reporters about how he handled the adversity.
He acknowledged the mental aspect of the game, noting that “every team gets punched in the mouth and the good ones respond.”
At the time, Detroit was trailing 23-7, and Goff had thrown multiple interceptions, but he remained confident in his ability to bounce back.
Goff emphasized that maintaining confidence was crucial in the Lions’ effort to fight their way back against a strong Texans team led by rookie quarterback CJ Stroud.
Even as his struggles persisted, Goff reassured his teammates in the huddle, telling them he was fine and that they needed to stick together.
He credited the defense for keeping the Lions in the game, stating that Aaron Glenn’s unit “really bailed us out all day.”
“Ultimately, I never lost confidence,” Goff said, explaining that he felt he was making the right decisions on most of his plays.
“I was telling them, ‘Hey man, I’m good. Just hang in there. I’m going to figure this out,’ and they stuck with me.”
His belief in himself and his team played a key role in the Lions securing their eighth win of the season, a victory that could prove important in the AFC playoff race.
