The Detroit Lions were hard at work off the field this time, ensuring that families in need could enjoy a warm Thanksgiving meal together.
The players shared their appreciation for the community that welcomed them to Detroit and consistently supported them, regardless of their performance on the field.
Many expressed gratitude for the chance to give back to the city that had embraced them, especially since they came from different places with different backgrounds.
“I’ve always had food on the table, so I don’t know what it’s like to go without.
To come here and provide meals to those who need it is something that means a lot,” said offensive lineman Colby Sorsdale.
This year, the Lions packed up around 5,000 meals, doubling their efforts from the previous year.
These meals are expected to help feed approximately 158,000 individuals facing food insecurity in the Detroit area.
The Lions partnered with Meijer and Gleaners Community Food Bank to make this possible.
“Food insecurity means not knowing where your next meal is coming from,” explained Angela Halverson, Director of Community Giving at Gleaners.
“This initiative will give families the chance to sit down together and enjoy a meal.”
Packing meals for families during Thanksgiving has become a tradition for the Lions.
Many players see it as a meaningful way to show gratitude for a community that has stood by them.
They believe this small act of giving back is one way to express their thanks for the ongoing support, no matter the outcome on the field.
