Detroit Lions Partner with Stronger Warrior Foundation to Renovate Home for Disabled Veteran.

The Detroit Lions have partnered with the Stronger Warrior Foundation to renovate a home for a disabled veteran in Clinton Township.

Kingsley Ifezue, 39, was honored along with his wife and two daughters. The family received over $200,000 in renovations, including a new roof, landscaping, and making their home ADA-compliant.

Ifezue expressed that he feels unworthy of such generosity.

“I’m not used to this kind of treatment,” Ifezue said. “I’m used to helping others and working hard. I feel like I’m floating on cloud nine. It’s a feeling I’ve never really experienced, like the joy when your mom gives you something for your birthday or Christmas. It almost feels like Christmas.”

Ifezue served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 2005 to 2008, stationed in Southfield, where he handled payroll and other behind-the-scenes duties.

In 2023, Ifezue was paralyzed from the chest down after a diving accident at a St. Clair Shores sandbar. Despite this, he refuses to let the injury define him, maintaining a strong zest for life and a deep love for the Lions.

“I’m just happy that they still remember us and support us diehard Lions fans who have always believed in them,” said Ifezue. “This jacket is really old, so I just want to say thank you to the Detroit Lions for helping us out.”

The renovations were made possible after Ifezue’s insurance refused to cover the repairs due to the age of his home. That’s when the Stronger Warrior Foundation, along with the Lions and the Sam Bernstein Law Firm, stepped in.

“To know that we mean so much to someone like Kingsley, who is facing such challenges, is truly inspiring to us as a community relations team, and it also motivates our football team,” said Roxanne Caine, Vice President of Detroit Lions Foundation and Community Relations.

Renovations began on October 22 and were completed on Friday afternoon.

The home reveal coincides with the Lions’ Salute to Service game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday at Ford Field.
