$15 Million Star for Detroit Lions to Rejoin Team for Week 12 Battle with Indianapolis Colts
Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta has been cleared from the injury list and is set to play against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 12, according to Tom Pelissero.
LaPorta is expected to return on Sunday when the Lions face the Colts, starting a challenging stretch of three games within 12 days.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell shared an optimistic update on LaPorta’s recovery, saying Friday, “He’s been good…Two days in, and I think he’s trending the right way. He looks pretty good, fresh legs, so that’s a positive.”
LaPorta missed last week’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars due to a shoulder injury sustained in the Lions’ November 10 victory over the Houston Texans. After participating in a walk-through on Wednesday and fully practicing on Thursday, LaPorta appears ready to play.
Drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft (34th overall), LaPorta has quickly made an impact with his dependable hands, sharp route-running, and ability to create mismatches in the passing game. His size, athleticism, and versatility have made him a key piece of Detroit’s offense.
In his rookie season, LaPorta earned second-team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection. He set the NFL record for most receptions by a rookie tight end and broke multiple franchise records for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns by a tight end, solidifying his status as an emerging star.
With the Lions holding a 9-1 record, maintaining their momentum is crucial. In Week 11, Detroit handed the Jaguars their worst loss in franchise history, surpassing a 44-point defeat from 1995.
Following their NFC Championship loss to the San Francisco 49ers last season, the Lions have become one of the NFC’s top teams in 2024.
Detroit is currently on an eight-game winning streak, their longest in a single season since 1934. Up next are the Colts, Bears, and Packers in three winnable games, further solidifying their position as NFC contenders.
