Georgia Bulldogs

Kirby Smart offers his perspective on how he’ll view this senior class in the future.

Georgia football’s senior class is poised to be one of the most accomplished in program history.

The Bulldogs have had some exceptional senior classes in recent years, but the one celebrated on Saturday during the win over UMass is now officially the most successful in Georgia’s history, at least in terms of win records.

Saturday’s victory against UMass pushed this senior class’s overall record to 51-4, surpassing the 50 wins achieved by last year’s senior class.

This group of seniors has experienced it all at Georgia, including two national championships, an SEC title, and the most dominant stretch of football the program has ever seen. But their story is far from finished, as head coach Kirby Smart mentioned in his postgame press conference.

“Probably for the ups and downs, and the way they’ve handled, you know, they were part of two national championships. They’re part of an undefeated regular season team that had one loss and didn’t get a play for it,” Smart shared via 247sports.com. “And then their story’s still gonna be written in their last year.

And they’ll be remembered for being great leaders, and being extremely bought in, and pushing the younger players this year and last year, which is important. But they also learned from a really good group. They had older brothers that were very good leaders.”

Their journey is still unfolding

Looking back on this year’s senior class, their two national championships are the most obvious accomplishments. However, while these players played key roles in those victories, other Georgia classes may be more closely associated with those titles.

This is where this year’s seniors, and the current team, have the opportunity to carve out their own legacy. If Georgia can capture a national championship this season, this class will not only have more wins than the previous year’s group, but they’ll also add a third national title to their resume. That could cement their place as the greatest class in Georgia football history.

While Georgia still has a lot to accomplish this season, it’s undeniable that this senior class is in a thrilling position to achieve something truly historic.
