Ex-Bears Defensive Back Could Play with Two Lions Starters Missing

The Detroit Lions will be missing two key starters—left tackle Taylor Decker and cornerback Carlton Davis III—when they take on the Bears this Thanksgiving.

Both players have been ruled out due to injuries: Decker has a knee issue, while Davis is dealing with both a knee and thumb injury.

Aside from Decker and Davis, the Lions’ injury report includes running back David Montgomery (shoulder) and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (knee).

However, both Montgomery and St. Brown are expected to play, as they would have participated fully in practice on Wednesday if the team had held one.

To replace Decker, the Lions have veteran tackle Dan Skipper, who stands 6-foot-9 and weighs 330 pounds. Skipper has started three games this season, allowing one sack and five pressures in 138 snaps. They also have second-year tackle Colby Sorsdal available as another option.

At cornerback, the Lions are considering former Bears player Kindle Vildor as a possible replacement for Davis. Another option is Khalil Dorsey.

Vildor stepped in for Terrion Arnold last week due to injury, but Arnold has since returned to full health. Vildor struggled against the Colts in a 24-6 Lions win, allowing several completions.

When Davis was injured last week, Dorsey came in to fill his spot while Vildor continued to play.

The Lions have yet to make a final decision on how they will handle the cornerback position.

Vildor, who was drafted by the Bears in 2020 and played 22 games for them over three seasons, was with the Titans, Eagles, and Lions last year, starting two games for Detroit.

This will be the first meeting between the Bears and the depleted Lions this season.

The absence of these key starters could provide an advantage for Chicago.
