The Detroit Lions secured a hard-fought 23-20 victory over Matt Eberflus’ Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day, escaping Ford Field with a narrow win.
The defense, though shorthanded, put up a resilient performance despite multiple injuries to key players throughout the game.
Even with several players going in and out of the lineup, the Lions’ defense managed to limit Caleb Williams and the Bears’ offense, keeping them at bay when it mattered most. The victory places the Lions atop the NFC North, a division they won last season.
However, they remain closely pursued by the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers, both of whom are within striking distance.
Detroit’s upcoming games against the Packers and Bills will be crucial as they look to maintain their lead.
After the game, Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams took a moment to stand before his teammates and offer an apology for lightly tossing the football into the face of a Bears player on the sideline, a move that resulted in a penalty.
Lions quarterback and team captain Jared Goff responded with a supportive seven-word message.
According to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, Goff praised Williams for the way he handled the situation and offered words of encouragement.
“He’s right where he needs to be,” Goff said, referencing Williams, who totaled 18 yards rushing and 28 yards receiving on five receptions during the game.
Next, the Lions will face the Packers on Thursday night at 8:15 p.m. ET.
With a two-game lead over Green Bay, Detroit will look to extend their position atop the NFC North with another important divisional clash.
