Lions Coach Dan Campbell Shares Concerns Over Key Injury Following Thanksgiving Victory Against Bears
The Detroit Lions secured a hard-fought 23-20 victory over the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving at Ford Field, improving their record to 11-1 for the season.
With a key matchup against the Green Bay Packers set for the following Thursday, the Lions are gearing up for another important game.
However, the win came at a cost, as the Lions’ defense saw several notable injuries.
Defensive ends Josh Paschal and Levi Onwuzurike, along with middle linebacker Malcolm “Rodrigo” Rodriguez, all left the game with injuries.
These additions to the Lions’ growing injury list are concerning, especially for defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, whose unit has already been dealing with injuries to key players like Aidan Hutchinson, Marcus Davenport, and Alex Anzalone.
After the game, head coach Dan Campbell addressed the injuries, focusing on one in particular.
According to Lions beat writer Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News, Campbell expressed significant concern about Rodriguez’s injury, which he believes could be quite serious.
While Onwuzurike’s injury, a hamstring issue, is also worrisome, it’s not considered as severe as Rodriguez’s situation.
Paschal suffered a knee injury, similar to Rodriguez, but Campbell sounded slightly more optimistic about his recovery.
Campbell offered his take on the injuries, saying, “I feel like it’ll be okay. It could be a little bit” in reference to Paschal and Onwuzurike.
However, he added that Rodriguez’s injury was the one that worried him the most:
“I’ll be honest with you, I think Rodrigo’s the one that could be the worst.
I don’t know how significant it’ll be just yet, but he’s the one I fear, a little bit, could be down.”
As the Lions prepare for their upcoming matchup against the Packers, the team will be anxiously awaiting updates on their injured defensive players.
