Matt Eberflus Offers Confusing Explanation for Bears’ Last-Minute Collapse Against Lions.

Matt Eberflus seemed to be in denial Thursday regarding the Chicago Bears’ dramatic collapse on Thanksgiving.

The Bears coach faced intense criticism for his questionable clock management during his team’s heartbreaking loss to the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. Chicago was trailing 23-20 and still had a timeout remaining when quarterback Caleb Williams was sacked with just over 30 seconds left in the game.

The Bears appeared to have ample time to make one final pass attempt before settling for a potential game-tying field goal. However, the offense failed to get set in time and ran out the clock on what became their last play.

When asked about the late-game mishandling, Eberflus expressed disappointment for his team but still insisted that the Bears had handled the situation “the right way.”

“I like what we did there,” Eberflus said. “To me, I think we handled it the right way. … It didn’t work out the way we wanted to.”

Many Bears fans, however, strongly disagreed with Eberflus. Some even expressed a desire to see Bears GM Ryan Poles fire Eberflus on Thanksgiving for the blunder.

It wasn’t just fans criticizing Eberflus on social media. Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson also voiced his disgust over what he saw from the Bears.
