JJ Watt Criticizes Eberflus for Missing Timeout in Lions Loss

Matt Eberflus, head coach of the Chicago Bears, found himself under fire after failing to call a crucial timeout during the game against the Detroit Lions. The Bears ended up losing 23-20, a result that many believe could have been avoided had Eberflus made the right call in the final moments of the game.

The blunder sparked frustration among fans and analysts alike, with many voicing their opinions on social media. JJ Watt, a former NFL defensive end for the Houston Texans, recently weighed in on the situation, sharing his thoughts on the platform X.

This wasn’t the only time Watt commented on the issue. He later posted again, expressing sympathy for Bears fans and calling Eberflus’ mistake “coaching malpractice.”

Eberflus’ error also drew criticism from Chicago players Keenan Allen and DJ Moore, who voiced their frustrations after the game. While the mistake was widely criticized, the coach himself seemed to defend his decision.

In the game against Detroit, Chicago’s QB Caleb Williams threw for 256 yards, completing 20 of 39 passes, and scoring three touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing with four carries for 39 yards.

Chicago Bears Part Ways with Matt Eberflus After Three Seasons
Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears management took Eberflus’ mistake seriously and decided to fire him. Eberflus had served as head coach for three seasons, and now, offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will take over for the remainder of the season.

This marks the first time in Bears history that a head coach has been dismissed mid-season. Eberflus finished with a record of 14 wins and 32 losses over his tenure, the third-worst winning percentage in franchise history, following John Fox and Abe Gibron. Many fans supported the decision, acknowledging his efforts despite the disappointing results.
