Former All-Pro Jamal Adams makes his mark with the Detroit Lions, eager to contribute to their playoff-bound defense.
Jamal Adams, the veteran defensive back, didn’t hesitate when the opportunity to join the Detroit Lions arose. After being released by the Tennessee Titans in October, the 29-year-old was encouraged by his family to make contact with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn. Reuniting with Glenn, whom Adams worked with before the 2017 NFL Draft, proved to be an irresistible opportunity.
A Long-Awaited Reunion
Adams and Glenn share a history dating back to Adams’ Pro Day workout before he was selected sixth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Those memories, combined with his desire to join a playoff-contending team, made Adams’ decision to reach out to Glenn an easy one. “When A.G. called, it was a no-brainer for me,” Adams said, showing just how ready he was to join the Lions.
First Practice with the Lions
Adams suited up in No. 25 and attended his first practice with the Lions on Monday. During a session open to the media, he showcased his adaptability, participating in linebacker drills. Known for his versatility, Adams has the ability to move between safety and linebacker positions, making him a key asset to the Lions’ defense, especially with injuries affecting the squad.
Ready to Contribute
Adams wasted no time expressing his enthusiasm for the Lions and their current form. “We’ve been kicking everybody’s a–. So, I’m fortunate enough, again, just to be on a team that’s rolling like this,” Adams said. “Whatever I can do to help, that’s what I’m here for.” His ability to contribute in multiple defensive roles will certainly provide much-needed depth as the Lions push toward the playoffs.
A Dream Come True
For Adams, joining the Lions was more than just an opportunity; it was the realization of a long-held dream. “It was definitely something I thought about, you know. If I can get an opportunity with a team that’s obviously winning and a first-class organization,” he said. The excitement was evident as Adams described his signing as “like a dream come true.”
Coach Campbell’s Evaluation
Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell shared his thoughts on Adams’ arrival and the evaluation process. “There may be a place here for Jamal, and today’s gonna tell a lot,” Campbell explained, referring to the full-speed practice session. The Lions, dealing with a number of defensive injuries, are carefully assessing their roster to see where Adams, along with other recent signings like Kwon Alexander, can contribute.
Impressed by Dan Campbell’s Leadership
Adams was quick to praise Dan Campbell’s leadership style and energy. “He’s fired up. He’s very energetic,” Adams noted. “That’s a coach that you will run through the wall for. It’s no secret why Detroit is very good. So again, I’m just very excited to be here.”
A Valuable Addition
With his excitement and versatility, Jamal Adams brings both depth and experience to the Lions as they continue to chase a playoff spot. His leadership and physicality are sure to be valuable assets in the coming weeks. The Lions’ defense just got stronger, and Adams couldn’t be more ready to contribute to the team’s success.
