“Bears defender Tyrique Stevenson received a fine of $19,697 for a sideline incident involving Jameson Williams.”
Jameson Williams’ altercation with Tyrique Stevenson in Week 13 almost came at a significant cost for the Detroit Lions, but it’s the Chicago Bears cornerback who now faces a hefty fine.
The NFL fined Tyrique Stevenson $19,697 for his involvement in the sideline incident with Williams during last Thursday’s Lions-Bears game at Ford Field. However, Williams was not penalized.
With the Lions ahead 23-13 and 9:44 left in the fourth quarter, Jared Goff hit Williams with a three-yard pass, moving Detroit to Chicago’s 29-yard line. As Williams stepped out of bounds, Stevenson seemingly tripped him, causing the wide receiver to fall.
After getting up, Williams flicked the ball into Stevenson’s face, resulting in a 15-yard taunting penalty that pushed the Lions back to Chicago’s 44-yard line.
Detroit then advanced to the Bears’ 26-yard line, but kicker Jake Bates missed a 45-yard field goal, maintaining the Lions’ 10-point lead.
On the next drive, the Bears closed the gap to just three points, with Caleb Williams leading an eight-play, 65-yard march, ending in a 31-yard touchdown pass to DJ Moore.
The Bears had a final chance to tie or win the game but ran out of time on an incomplete pass, allowing the Lions to secure a 23-20 victory.
After the game, Lions head coach Dan Campbell shared that Williams had apologized to the team for his actions.
“That’s big, man,” Campbell said. “That’s growth.”
The Lions and Bears will meet one last time this season on December 22 at Soldier Field, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
