Detroit Lions

The NFL’s leading scoring offenses will face off when the Lions host the Bills this weekend.

The most eagerly anticipated game of Week 15 will take place in Detroit, where the Lions host Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in a nationally televised contest on CBS at 4:25 p.m. Sunday.

This matchup pits two of the NFL’s top teams against each other, with the potential for a Super Bowl preview that many fans are hoping for. The crew from “The NFL Today” will be broadcasting live from Detroit on Sunday morning.

For Detroit, this will be a major test for defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s unit, as they face Allen, the MVP frontrunner heading into the final month of the season. Allen threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns (117.2 rating), and added 82 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in a 44-42 loss to the Rams last Sunday. With over 3,000 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, Allen also averages 5.2 yards per carry, with 416 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns this season.

The Bills boast the NFL’s second-highest scoring offense (30.5), just behind Detroit (32.1).

On the other side, Detroit has their own MVP candidate in Jared Goff, who ranks second in completion percentage (72.4) and passer rating (109.1), and is fifth in touchdown passes (25).

In this game, featuring the league’s top two scoring offenses, both defenses will be tested, and that could ultimately be the key difference. Detroit has the NFL’s second-best scoring defense (18.0), ranking 10th in total defense, 23rd against the pass, and fifth against the run. Buffalo’s defense ranks eighth in scoring (20.6), 14th in total defense, ninth against the pass, and 19th against the run.

Both teams are vying for playoff positioning, with each aiming for the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences. Detroit currently leads the NFC North and holds the NFC’s top seed at 12-1, but both Philadelphia (11-2) and Minnesota (11-2) are one game behind with four games remaining. The Lions will face the Vikings at home in the season finale.

Buffalo (10-3) has already secured the AFC East title, which guarantees at least one home playoff game, but their loss in Los Angeles last Sunday has them two games behind Kansas City (12-1) in the race for the top seed in the AFC. The Bills hold the tiebreaker over Kansas City thanks to their Week 11 victory (30-21).

The Lions’ appearance on Thursday Night Football last week provided them with a 10-day preparation window for this game. This extended break is hoped to give some injured players the chance to return. Players to watch include: defensive tackle DJ Reader, defensive end Josh Paschal, defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike, and left tackle Taylor Decker, all of whom missed Detroit’s win over Green Bay.

This Sunday’s game marks a rare interconference clash between two of the NFL’s top teams, with both having plenty at stake as the regular season enters its final stretch.
