The Detroit Lions’ defense has been hit hard by injuries in recent weeks, a challenge evident during their 34-31 victory over Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers last Thursday, where Aaron Glenn’s unit had some struggles.
The Lions are expecting to get several key players back this Sunday afternoon against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, with Levi Oruwariye, Josh Paschal, and others returning to practice recently.
On Thursday, linebacker Jack Campbell revealed a bold nickname for the Lions’ defense that head coach Dan Campbell hopes will catch on.
“What stood out to me was after the game, Coach Campbell called us the ‘Northern Savages,’” Campbell said in a video shared on X. “And I’m like, we really are, you’ve got a bunch of guys out there flying around and having fun. So, I’m going to keep going with the ‘Northern Savage’ thing. I think it’s awesome,” he added. “You just have a bunch of hungry guys out there looking to improve and loving football.”
The Lions currently rank 10th in the NFL in total defense, allowing just over 318 yards per game. Only the Los Angeles Chargers (21) under Jim Harbaugh and the Denver Broncos (23) under Sean Payton have allowed fewer touchdowns than Detroit this season. However, the Lions’ defense will face a tough test from Allen, James Cook, and the Bills’ offense on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
