The Detroit Lions suffered another loss they could’ve avoided.
Dan Campbell’s ultra-aggressive approach came back to bite them once more.
With 12 minutes left and his team trailing by ten points, Campbell made the puzzling decision to attempt an onside kick.
Naturally, it failed.
The Bills recovered the ball and quickly moved into Lions’ territory, setting up another scoring opportunity.
Despite having a high-powered offense that could’ve easily scored 10+ points in the remaining time, the Lions ended up losing by six.
After the loss, Coach Campbell remained confident in his team’s ability to secure the ball.
In response, NFL icon J.J. Watt stated that, while he believes he could take on a small bear, that doesn’t mean he should. He argued that, given the low success rate of onside kicks, attempting one in that moment was simply reckless.
While the Lions have already secured their playoff spot, they haven’t locked in the No. 1 seed in the NFC yet.
Campbell’s bold decision-making has been a subject of debate in back-to-back weeks.
The Lions are no longer underdogs and don’t need to approach the game that way.
Being aggressive and aiming for big plays can be beneficial, but sometimes, it just doesn’t make sense.
