Detroit Fans Express Frustration Over Lions’ Unprecedented Injury Struggles and Loss to Bills
Injuries in the NFL have decreased this season, according to league executive Jeff Miller, but the NFC-leading Detroit Lions have been as affected as any team in this regard.
As the Lions aim to secure home-field advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs, they are navigating a roster that has been severely impacted by injuries during the 2024-2025 season.
Detroit had the most players on injured reserve in the league, with 18, before cornerback Carlton Davis III suffered a broken jaw and defensive tackle Alim McNeill tore his ACL in a season-ending injury against the Bills.
The Lions placed Davis, McNeill, and backup cornerback Khalil Dorsey—who fractured his leg this past Sunday—on injured reserve Tuesday.
On Monday, a major Detroit sports site offered Lions fans a chance to express their feelings about coach Dan Campbell’s team’s injury struggles as the Lions prepared to face Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears this Sunday.
“#Lions fans this is a safe space, how are you feeling right now?” Woodward Sports posted on its X account.
Responses from fans were mixed, with some content with the Lions’ performance and others frustrated by the team’s recent injury troubles.
“Sad and frustrated,” one fan said. “We’re so close, but it feels like every week we’re moving backward health-wise.”
“Let’s win these last 3, get the bye, and hopefully piece this team together again. After that, it’s just another three wins for a ring,” another fan added.
The Lions have a road game against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, Dec. 30, and then face the Vikings at Ford Field on Jan. 5 to close the regular season.
“It’s one freaking loss, why is everyone losing their minds?!?!” another fan chimed in.
“Great. I’ve loved this team since I was a kid. I’m 31 now. What I’m seeing is amazing, and I’ve never seen anything like this from my team. I feel good. We will get a #SuperBowl. #OnePride,” said another.
One fan even suggested a change to Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp amidst the team’s ongoing injury issues.
“Hate the injuries,” they wrote. “If they have their next two games on grass, and have no injuries, the owner needs to consider growing grass nearby and putting it in the stadium for games. This is insane.”
