Two Detroit Lions players are facing fines after their actions during the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, December 15. Linebacker Kwon Alexander and defensive back Brian Branch are the two involved, and now both have to pay up.
Alexander was fined $6,722 for “roughing the passer” after hitting Bills quarterback Josh Allen late in the second quarter. The NFL’s official report stated that the fine resulted from a blow to Allen’s head/neck area.
Branch was fined $10,128 for “taunting” and “unsportsmanlike conduct.” Interestingly, no Buffalo Bills players were fined following the game.
Alexander, who was recently signed to the Lions after joining from the Denver Broncos’ practice squad in late November, is new to Detroit but has been in the NFL for around a decade. He was brought in to replace Malcolm Rodriguez, who suffered a torn ACL. Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn praised Alexander’s practice habits and leadership, noting that his instincts and fast play make him a key asset. Glenn also emphasized that Alexander enjoys playing for the Lions and contributes to the team’s success.
The Lions bounced back from their loss to the Bills with a 34-17 win against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, December 22. This victory marked the Lions’ first win following a loss since their 1-6 start to the 2022 season.
Head coach Dan Campbell commented on the team’s resilience, stating that overcoming losses and improving after mistakes is essential to the team’s character. He highlighted players like Amon-Ra St. Brown as examples of how the team maintains confidence and competitiveness, never allowing setbacks to hinder their progress.
