Jared Goff and Za’Darius Smith Pursuing Big Contract Incentives

The Detroit Lions are determined to secure the NFC North title and earn the No. 1 seed in the NFL playoffs.

Amid this push, two players on the roster have significant financial bonuses within their reach.

ESPN’s Ben Baby detailed several incentive opportunities for NFL players, based on data from the Roster Management System.

Quarterback Jared Goff is enjoying a career-best season, even entering MVP discussions as he has led the Lions to a 13-2 record.

If Detroit wins the Super Bowl and Goff participates in at least 50% of the offensive snaps, his 2028 base salary will increase by $1 million.

On the defensive side, general manager Brad Holmes made a key move to acquire veteran edge rusher Za’Darius Smith.

This was especially crucial following the season-ending injury to Marcus Davenport and the release of James Houston.

Smith is also chasing bonus incentives. Per ESPN, he needs two more sacks to reach 10 this season, which would earn him $250,000.

If he manages to record four additional sacks, he’ll receive a $500,000 bonus.

On top of these, Smith stands to gain an extra $250,000 if he meets either target and the Lions clinch a playoff spot.

Both Goff and Smith are poised to significantly boost their earnings while helping their team succeed.
