To show his gratitude, Jared Goff gives the Lions’ offensive line a YETI gift package filled with high-quality beef.
Competing with new cars, expensive gadgets, and luxurious jewelry can be tough during the holiday season.
But Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff did his best to show appreciation for his offensive line. Goff mentioned that he gave his linemen a YETI cooler care package filled with a lot of beef for the holidays.
“It’s tough when guys are giving out Toyota trucks to keep up with that,” Goff told reporters on Thursday. “But I got them a nice YETI package with a lot of Wagyu — steaks and beef. I hope they enjoy it.”
Goff’s mention of Toyota trucks comes after San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy gifted his offensive line a fleet of new cars. In other holiday gift news, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley teamed up to give their offensive line golf carts as a gesture of thanks.
Last year, Goff presented his offensive linemen with $11,000 Breitling Super Chronomat watches, alongside Jared (the jeweler). The boxes came with a note reading:
“Every second of this year was timeless. Thank you for a historic season and bringing gridiron glory back to Detroit. Enjoy this gift by Jared. From your Jared.”
Kevin Zeitler said he couldn’t wait to get his hands on the care package. The veteran offensive lineman from Wisconsin responded with a “Sign me up” when asked about the gift.
Detroit’s offensive line continues to be the team’s foundation. Despite injuries, the starting five of Taylor Decker, Zeitler, Frank Ragnow, Graham Glasgow, and Penei Sewell remains among the league’s best.
The Lions average 4.6 yards per rush attempt, ranking 10th in the NFL. Goff has been sacked 27 times on 472 passing attempts, placing him in the lower half of regular starting quarterbacks.
Pro Football Focus ranks Detroit’s offensive line 15th in pass protection and third overall in the run game. From another angle, ESPN analytics is higher on Detroit’s pass blocking, ranking them 10th in pass-block win rate.
The Lions also have standout players, with Sewell ranking fourth among offensive tackles, and Ragnow ranking third among centers, according to PFF.
“They’re just so tough, first off, and their resiliency, all of that,” Goff recently said of the line. “But, obviously, they’re so talented, and I’m fortunate to be behind them. I don’t take that for granted.
“Looking around the league, a lot of guys are taking a lot of hits. I don’t have to be one of those guys, so I’m lucky to be in this situation, and I give them all the credit.”
