Kerby Joseph of the Lions Pays Homage to 49ers Star With Dance After Interception.

The Detroit Lions pulled off a thrilling Monday Night Football comeback in San Francisco against the 49ers, with defensive back Kerby Joseph playing a key role in the victory.

Joseph grabbed his ninth interception of the season and his second of the game off 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy in the fourth quarter, prompting a celebration that fans from the 1990s era will instantly recall.

Joseph performed a neck wiggle, moving his head forward and backward rapidly, a signature move made famous by former 49ers safety Merton Hanks.

“That’s the Merton Hanks dance there, I know that one,” said ESPN announcer and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman during the broadcast.

“We’d play San Francisco and he got a few (interceptions) on me, I recognize that,” Aikman added.

The Lions’ defense gave up 21 first-half points to the 49ers, trailing 21-13 at halftime.

Coach Dan Campbell’s squad made adjustments in the second half, outscoring San Francisco by 18 points in the third quarter while allowing just seven.

By the end of the game, the Lions had secured a 40-34 victory over the team that defeated them in the NFC Championship Game on January 28, 2024, marking their 14th win of the 2024-2025 season, a franchise record.
