Terrorist attack on Bourbon Street leaves Georgia student injured amid New Year festivities.

Early Wednesday morning, a tragic act of violence unfolded on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, where thousands had gathered to celebrate the new year.

A man drove a pickup truck into a crowd, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens more.

Authorities are treating the incident as an act of terrorism, and among the critically injured is a University of Georgia student.

University of Georgia President Jere W. Morehead issued a statement expressing his condolences and pledging support to those affected by the attack.

“I am heartbroken by the devastating events in New Orleans overnight, and I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this senseless tragedy,” Morehead said.

“We have been informed that a University of Georgia student sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving medical care.

I have spoken with the student’s family to convey our community’s concern, support, and best wishes for recovery.”

Morehead also thanked first responders for their swift actions and the medical teams providing care to the injured.

“Our community will do everything possible to support those impacted by this horrific event,” he stated.

As the investigation progresses, the UGA community remains united in sending thoughts and prayers to all the victims and their loved ones.

The incident has left many in shock, and authorities are working diligently to ensure justice is served.
