Detroit Lions

Before Lions game, Stephen A. Smith delivers stern Sam Darnold message to Vikings fans.

The Detroit Lions are set to host Sam Darnold and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night in a matchup that will determine the NFC North champion.

Earlier this season, the Lions edged out the Vikings by two points in Minnesota, with Darnold nearly matching Lions star Jared Goff in a tightly contested game.

On Thursday, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith cautioned Vikings fans against overhyping Darnold ahead of Sunday’s decisive game at Ford Field.

“I’m thinking about Sam Darnold, and yes, he deserves credit; he’s had a great season, etc., etc., but the man hasn’t thrown for 300 yards since November 24 against Chicago,” Smith remarked on First Take.

“I’m just saying, let’s not act like this is the second coming of Dan Marino,” he added.

“Can we pump the brakes a little, Booger (McFarland)? We’re talking about Sam Darnold. The man hasn’t thrown for 300 yards since November 24 against Chicago.”

The Lions are favored by 2 1/2 points heading into Sunday Night Football at home.

They lead the NFL in scoring but will face a strong test from a Vikings defense that has delivered in key moments, including last week’s game against Green Bay.
