Heading into the Week 18 NFL schedule with a 14-2 record, the Detroit Lions are tied for the league’s second-best record.
One of the teams sharing that record is their opponent this week, making Sunday night’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings the Lions’ most crucial game of the season.
Before the game, Detroit made a surprising roster move. Former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams has been released from the practice squad, ending his brief stint in Detroit.
The 29-year-old Texas native joined the Lions’ practice squad on December 1, 2024, but appeared in only two games.
Despite starting both games, Adams recorded just three tackles and played a total of 20 snaps, which accounted for only 17% of the team’s defensive snaps.
This is not the first time Adams has faced release this season. Earlier in the year, he was let go by the Tennessee Titans after appearing in three games and starting once.
On that occasion, Adams personally requested his release to explore other opportunities.
Adams’ time with the Lions was short-lived, and now the team will move forward without him as they prepare for their pivotal game against the Vikings.
