The Minnesota Vikings faced a tough loss in Detroit. On top of that, the wives and girlfriends of the players were subjected to mistreatment by Lions fans:
Several wives of Vikings players took to social media to share their harrowing experiences with unruly Lions supporters at Ford Field.
Dalton Risner’s wife was the first to speak up, describing being inappropriately touched and heckled.
Andrew Van Ginkel’s wife called it the worst experience she’d ever had, saying, “I’ve honestly never been treated so poorly by another team’s fan base as I was on Sunday… the other 13 girls said the same thing.”
This was just the beginning.
The situation got so severe that nine security guards had to step in to protect the wives and girlfriends from the hostile crowd.
During warmups, one fan allegedly told a player he hoped he would tear an ACL, which upset his wife, mother, and elderly grandmother.
One Vikings wife was informed that such behavior was considered normal for the families of former Lions players.
Another fan reportedly threatened a Vikings’ wife, saying she “wouldn’t leave Detroit with all her fingers.”
Another fan targeted a Vikings player’s family, yelling, “Go home fat a–, go home fat a–.”
