Adam Schefter bolsters the push for Aaron Glenn to become the Jets’ next head coach amid rising interest.

Aaron Glenn-Jets rumors are intensifying.

The New York Jets have requested an overwhelming 17 interviews for their vacant head coaching position, but there’s a clear frontrunner. After a standout 2024 season, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator and former Jets cornerback Aaron Glenn is currently at the top of New York’s list.

Glenn, who is also a strong contender for the New Orleans Saints job following his time as an assistant there, has already interviewed for the Jets position. He has earned high marks after transforming the Lions’ defense from one of the NFL’s worst to one of its best.

The Jets are far from concluding their coaching search, but the latest buzz from Adam Schefter on Pat McAfee’s show suggests the team will need a strong argument to consider anyone other than Glenn.

Schefter specifically named Glenn as the only coach the Jets are seriously considering for the job. While New Orleans remains a possibility, the Jets’ interest in Glenn seems to be growing.

The pros and cons surrounding Glenn, who played for the Jets for eight seasons, mirror the discussions when Robert Saleh was hired away from the 49ers. Glenn’s early tenure in Detroit, like Saleh’s in San Francisco, was subpar.

However, Glenn turned things around once he had better players, and his 2024 campaign has been his best work, keeping the defense competitive despite numerous injuries. Glenn has received strong endorsements from players on both sides of the ball in Detroit.

Not only is Glenn a well-regarded leader who could bring in members of Detroit’s talented offensive coaching staff if hired, but he has as much pride in being a Jet as any coach who has pursued the job. That passion, alongside his tactical acumen, is something the Jets need desperately.

If the Jets miss out on Glenn and he heads to New Orleans, Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores has been mentioned as a popular backup. However, Schefter seems to add more weight to Glenn’s candidacy, naming him the top choice in Woody Johnson’s eyes right now.
