David Montgomery drops a ‘refreshing’ piece of news on his return for the Commanders game.
The Detroit Lions are riding high as one of the most promising teams in the NFL, finishing the regular season with a remarkable 15-2 record, the best in franchise history.
With a clear path to Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, the Lions are making all the right moves to ensure a strong playoff run.
One of their key offensive players, David Montgomery, is set to return just in time for their Divisional Round game against the Commanders.
Montgomery shared his excitement about being back with the team, telling ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, “It’s refreshing. It’s good to be back in a position where I can help the team.
I missed it and I’m happy to be back.” Montgomery had been sidelined since Week 15 after suffering an MCL injury, leading to rumors that his season was over and he would require surgery.
However, those rumors turned out to be false, and Montgomery will be returning to action this week.
Addressing the speculation about his injury and potential surgery, Montgomery clarified, “The rumors about me needing surgery or that it was over for me weren’t accurate.
I didn’t know anything about surgery until the media reported it. It was news to me. But I’m always confident in my preparation and in myself.”
The return of Montgomery will be a welcome sight for Lions fans, especially with such high stakes in the postseason.
Head coach Dan Campbell emphasized Montgomery’s importance to the team, stating, “It’ll mean a lot. Five (Montgomery) is a big part of us.
He’s a tone-setter and a catalyst. We have a spot for him here, and he’s going to play a big role in this game.”
The Lions are heading into their matchup against the Commanders with their eyes on the prize, but Campbell has been careful to focus the team’s attention on the task at hand rather than the Super Bowl.
“It’s not Super Bowl or bust for us,” Campbell said, stressing the importance of staying focused on the game at hand.
Still, some Lions players, including Montgomery, have expressed excitement about the possibility of a Super Bowl appearance.
Montgomery admitted he dreams about the team reaching the big game, saying, “I’ve had dreams about us going to the Super Bowl.
They’ve become more vivid as we get closer. I don’t know exactly what it will look like, but I’m confident we’ll get there.”
If the Lions can defeat the Commanders on Saturday, they will be one win away from their first-ever Super Bowl appearance, setting the stage for a thrilling postseason run.
