Ware supports Jason Witten as a strong candidate to lead the Dallas Cowboys as head coach.

The Dallas Cowboys are in search of a new head coach after parting ways with Mike McCarthy earlier this week.

Jerry Jones’ hunt has brought up Deion Sanders as a candidate, which has dominated the sports discussion all week.

Many are wondering if Sanders, currently the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, would be ready to make the jump to the NFL.

And if so, could he lead the Cowboys to contention while managing the attention that comes with the role?

DeMarcus Ware, a Cowboys legend, spoke with Sports Illustrated on Thursday while promoting his new ad campaign with AT&T. When asked about the head coach search, Ware mentioned a different name: Jason Witten.

“Probably Jason Witten,” Ware said. “I think he’d do well in the locker room. Even though he doesn’t have NFL coaching experience, he’s coached high school football for a while and could always bring in NFL assistants.

The head coach needs to motivate, organize, and I think he’d bring a more traditional approach. We need discipline, integrity, and fighters.”

Witten, who spent 16 of his 17 seasons with the Cowboys, amassed over 12,000 receiving yards and 72 touchdowns.

A fan favorite for his work ethic and production, he’s been linked to the coaching position.

As for Ware, he had a blast working on his ad with AT&T. He said, “It was a great experience. AT&T came to me with a campaign about guarantees.

They’re the only carrier offering guarantees with wireless and fiber networks. I’ve been with AT&T since 2005, and they wanted me to join Tim Tebow and others to show people that nothing in life is guaranteed. I was like, OK, I can do that. It was really cool.”
