Commanders’ G Sam Cosmi’s knee injury may sideline him for the rest of playoffs.

The Washington Commanders are likely to be without starting right guard Sam Cosmi for the remainder of the playoffs.

Cosmi sustained a knee injury during Washington’s NFC divisional-round victory over the top-seeded Detroit Lions on Saturday night. NFL Network reported that he is scheduled for an MRI on Sunday, with the injury being described as “potentially serious.”

The injury occurred about five minutes into the second quarter when Detroit defender Za’Darius Smith accidentally collided with the back of Cosmi’s legs, pinning Cosmi’s right leg under Smith’s body. Cosmi limped off the field with the help of trainers.

Veteran backup Trent Scott replaced Cosmi. Scott, playing with his fourth team in seven NFL seasons, stepped in seamlessly. Cosmi, 25, was selected by Washington in the second round (51st overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He has appeared in 57 regular-season games (49 starts) for Washington, starting all 17 games and playing 100 percent of the team’s snaps over the past two seasons.

The Commanders will face the winner of Sunday’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship next weekend.
