“I will support Jared Goff for the rest of my life.
After finishing the 2024-25 regular season with a 15-2 record and securing a first-round bye, the Detroit Lions suffered a tough loss on Saturday night to the NFC’s six-seed, the Washington Commanders.
Quarterback Jared Goff didn’t have his best performance in the 45-31 defeat, completing only 57.5% of his passes and committing four turnovers (3 INTs, 1 FUM). Despite his difficulties, his teammates stood by him fiercely after the game:
“That’s nonsense,” said Lions right tackle Penei Sewell when asked if Goff was responsible for the loss. “I just can’t understand how, in a team sport, people can single out one player. It’s not like he’s out there alone. I’ll never get it.”
“I’ll support Jared Goff for the rest of my life,” said center Frank Ragnow when asked a similar question. “In any part of life, football or anything else. One of the most honorable people, players, leaders—you name it. I’ll always have his back.”
That’s hard to argue with.
Sadly, the loss sends the Lions back to the drawing board in the offseason, and with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn on the verge of new opportunities, they may also be starting from scratch to rebuild their coaching staff.
