The Netflix era of WWE Raw has kicked off with several memorable moments, but not without its criticisms. One of the most notable issues occurred during the premiere of “Raw” on Netflix, where Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, who currently holds the company’s top title, was relegated to being a mere audience member, shown sitting in the crowd with no further involvement.
WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett, a friend of Rhodes, shared his thoughts on the decision during an episode of “My World,” expressing surprise at the placement of “The American Nightmare” in the crowd for such a major show.
“In the crowd? Come on. Tell me… Okay, I wanna make sure I’m not being a ‘Cody crybaby’ here. Do you think they would’ve ever had Roman Reigns in the crowd waving? To me, that’s the litmus test,” Jarrett said.
Co-host Conrad Thompson also voiced his dissatisfaction with how WWE presented Rhodes, agreeing with Jarrett’s concerns. Thompson pointed out that Rhodes had been WWE’s top merchandise seller last year and emphasized that someone like The Rock would never have been positioned in the crowd as an audience member.
The mention of The Rock wasn’t just because of his corporate ties to TKO, but because he had two segments on “Raw’s” Netflix debut — presenting the Ula Fala to Reigns and delivering a promo in the ring where he acknowledged Rhodes in the front row. Despite Rhodes being a part of “WWE SmackDown,” his absence from a major event like this was seen as a significant oversight by WWE Hall of Famer Jarrett.
