The Dallas Cowboys face a pivotal offseason, with hiring a head coach as their top priority.
When it comes to the NFL Draft, Dallas has a significant decision to make. Picking at No. 12, the team has pressing needs on both offense and defense, leaving their draft direction uncertain.
One name frequently linked to Dallas is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. In CBS Sports’ latest mock draft, Dak Prescott is projected to gain the best running back in college football.
“Unless Dallas hires Deion Sanders as head coach and drafts Shedeur Sanders, Dak Prescott will be the starter next season,” CBS Sports notes.
“When Prescott thrived, he had a pass-catching running back to ease the load. Ashton Jeanty could fill that role perfectly.”
CBS’ comments about Deion and his son seem far-fetched, as Prescott’s hefty cap hit ensures he’ll remain with the Cowboys.
Plus, moving up from No. 12 to draft Shedeur Sanders would require a massive trade, and Deion hasn’t even interviewed for the head coach position.
Jeanty, however, is an exciting prospect. After rushing for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2024, he could provide the immediate boost Dallas needs at running back.
While Rico Dowdle was solid, Jeanty’s availability at No. 12 might make him impossible to pass up. Will the Cowboys prioritize the best player available or draft based on need?
If Jeanty is still on the board, Dallas may have no choice but to select him.
