The Chicago Bears have officially hired Ben Johnson as their head coach.
The Bears are reportedly finalizing an agreement with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson to take over as their next head coach, per ESPN.
The Lions’ devastating playoff loss on Saturday has accelerated the likelihood of Johnson leaving to become a head coach elsewhere.
Within the next 24 hours, Johnson is expected to solidify his schedule for in-person interviews, as reported by The Athletic’s “Scoop City” newsletter on Monday.
“Currently, three teams—the Raiders, Bears, and Jaguars—are expressing strong interest in Johnson,” the newsletter stated.
“However, it’s possible Johnson won’t meet with all three teams as he evaluates his options. The Raiders, now led by Tom Brady, are making an especially strong push to secure him.”
Johnson’s departure marks a significant shift for Detroit, as his offensive play-calling has been instrumental in the Lions’ success over recent seasons. His next chapter in Chicago signals a new era for the Bears.
